No one was injured when three balconies collapsed in Marsascala on Tuesday evening.

The balconies of a block of apartments in Triq is-Silla corner with Triq il-Ħut, collapsed at around 8.15pm.

A resident said a loud noise was heard throughout the neighbourhood.

A contractor had been extending the number of floors to five from the original three.

First to collapse was the L-shaped balcony on the third storey, bringing down with it the new parts of the balconies at the second and first floor levels. These had been extended into L-shaped balconies similar to the ones on the upper levels.

The original parts of the old balconies still stand.

The police and members of the Civil Protection Department are on site.
