A 17-year-old lad from St Julian's and two 16-year-old youths from Ta' Xbiex were arraigned in court yesterday and charged with violently raping and defiling a 14-year-old Swedish girl, who is in Malta to study English.

The court ordered a ban on the publication of the names of the accused because they are minors. The girl's name also cannot be published.

The three youths were charged with raping the Swedish girl on Thursday at 11 p.m. at Dragonara Bay, St Julian's.

The accused were released on bail against a personal surety of Lm2,000 for the 17-year-old and against a personal surety of Lm1,000 each for the 16-year-olds.
