Three men have been handed suspended sentences after admitting to grievously injuring a man in an assault at clubbing venue Gianpula Village.
French nationals David Benjamin Betrand (21), Hidara Yahya (22) and Zaccaria Farsaoui (25) appeared in court Monday accused of grievously injuring the victim and breaching the public peace.
Police inspector John Sammut told the court that the Siġġiewi police station was informed Sunday about a person who had been assaulted at Gianpula Village by three individuals.
Officers identified the alleged victim upon arrival at the club, when they were told by security staff that one suspect, Yahya, had been arrested while two suspects had fled the scene.
After interrogating Yahya, investigators visited the apartment he was renting with Betrand and Farsaoui and arrested the other two French nationals.
The three men admitted the charges brought against them and were found guilty.
They were condemned to 18 months in prison suspended for three years.
A protection order was issued in favour of the victim, who was present in court using crutches.
Magistrate Leonard Caruana presided over the court.
AG lawyer Miryea Mifsud prosecuted assisted by police inspectors James Mallia and John Sammut.
