Three new faces at Marsaxlokk
Veselji makes City comeback
Player movements and registrations at the Malta FA offices failed to reserve any major surprises yesterday, the first day of the January transfer window.
As expected, Marsaxlokk were the most active among Premier League clubs. Yesterday, they filed in the registration of three new players, just in time to beat the 48-hour deadline ahead of tomorrow's crunch Premier League match against Valletta.
Striker Daniel Bogdanovic moved south from Sliema. He was joined by goalkeeper Ivan Casha, who arrived from Hamrun Spartans, and Minabo Asechemie. The latter, at last, became a Marsaxlokk player after protracted negotiations since last summer.
In August, Asechemie was set to leave Division One Marsa but failed to arrive in time from the UK and complete his move to Marsaxlokk.
Asechemie, replaces midfielder Hari Milchev Borislavov who returned to Bulgaria.
Valletta, on their part, completed the loan signing of former striker Nenad Veselji from Sliema. The 32-year-old signed a six-month deal as City seek to strengthen their attacking department with injury-prone Bulgarian Ivan Tonchev rarely showing his true worth in the few matches he completed for Valletta.
The Wanderers were hoping to play Michael Mifsud today against Hibernians after his return from Kaiserslautern. However, with the MFA offices closed on New Year's day, they were unable to beat the 48-hour deadline before kick-off. His comeback was put back for the next game against Valletta today week.
Another transfer deal completed yesterday was that of the much-travelled Igor Stefanovic.
The Serbia striker joined San Gwann from fellow Division One club Tarxien Rainbows. Stefanovic, 32, has played for various top teams on the islands. He has now joined San Gwann for the rest of the season.
