Archbishop Joseph Mercieca has declared the pastoral zones of Mtarfa, Pembroke and Qawra as parishes with effect from last Wednesday.
The titular saint of Mtarfa is Sta Lucija. Fr Joe Buhagiar is parish priest.
The Pembroke parish is dedicated to the Risen Christ and the new parish priest is Fr Anton Portelli.
St Francis of Assisi is the titular saint of the Qawra parish which is in the pastoral care of the Franciscan Conventuals. Fr Gorg Zammit is the parish priest.
There is now a total of 68 parishes and two autonomous zones, the zone dedicated to Santa Marija in Birkirkara and a zone at Iklin dedicated to the Holy Family.
The last pastoral zone that was elevated to parish was that of Ibrag in April 1999.
