Three officials moving out of OPM in post-election changes

Anthony David Gatt, Owen Grech, and Aaron Zahra are expected to step down

Three officials who worked at the Office of the Prime Minister during the past legislature will be stepping down from their posts.

The officials are Anthony David Gatt, Owen Grech, and Aaron Zahra.

Speaking to Times of Malta, Anthony David Gatt said he had been engaged on a temporary consultancy basis that was to conclude at the end of the legislature.

He said he reached the targets and objectives in his contract and will now return to his position at Malta Enterprise.

Gatt was the Chief Marketing Officer at Malta Enterprise before taking on a position at the OPM. He also served on the steering committee of the Vision 2050 project.

Meanwhile, on Facebook, Zahra denied reports that he had been removed from his post, saying he is still engaged within the OPM.

“I am proud of the work I carried out and am still carrying out in the Office of the Prime Minister, whom I thank for the trust he always showed in me and still shows to this day.”

However, Times of Malta is informed that Zahra is working his notice and will likely move out of his role.

When pressed further on whether his contract of engagement is expiring soon, Zahra reiterated that he has not been removed from any position and has not been asked to do so.

Zahra is a close aide to Abela and was responsible for organising and managing logistics for the PM’s events and appearances.

In 2022, he was appointed chair of Festivals Malta, an agency set up in 2017 to oversee national and international events, festivals and cultural projects.

The third official who will be stepping down - Grech - served as the OPM Head of Customer Care.

He told Times of Malta that he will be pursuing a new professional opportunity after almost seven years at OPM.

Grech also thanked Robert Abela for trusting him over the years.

“These years have been both professionally and personally rewarding, and I will always look back on them with appreciation.”
