Last week's photograph, which accompanied the contribution 'Three pioneers of Maltese broadcasting', attracted a lot of interest, including that of Charles Arrigo, who certainly knows a thing or two about broadcasting.

Mr Arrigo brought to our attention that while the man in the middle is certainly Carmelo Costa and the one on the right is Joe Griffiths, the other gentleman in the picture is not Frankie Camilleri, as stated in the caption, but Rediffusion outside-broadcasting engineer Joe Vella.

Although not active in sports, Mr Vella could also be classed among the pioneers of broadcasting in Malta because he was mainly the engineer in charge whenever Mr Costa or Lewis Portelli were on duty, whether it was football, waterpolo, the September 8 regatta or athletics.

Meanwhile, another reader seems to think that the picture was taken on the opening of the Schreiber Sports Ground on Sunday, October 12, 1946. He also produced a very interesting photograph of the occasion, which could be published in some future article.
