A small group of Malta Tennis Federation (MTF) U-16 players, accompanied by national coach Dusan Janicijevic, have just returned from a training camp in Serbia and Montenegro.

The players making the trip were Mark Cachia, Simon Camilleri and Steffi Sullivan.

They were engaged in a four-day hectic schedule which included intensive training sessions at the Red Star Belgrade club with some of the best promising players in Serbia.

Among those sparring with the Maltese was Jelena Jukovic. Two years ago this player was ranked no.1 junior in the world rankings and had also won the Australian Open for juniors. Today she has a 120 WTA ranking. This month, Jukovic will be visiting the islands to practise with the MTF juniors.

After the training camp in Belgrade, Cachia, Camilleri and Sullivan played in an international U-16 tournament in Novisad.

Sullivan lost in the Main Draw in the fourth round, Camilleri was eliminated by a Romanian opponent and Cachia was out in the qualifying round.
