Three-day fantasy role-playing production secures two national records
This month saw the country's largest immersive live-action roleplay event, better known by its abbreviation, LARP
A fantasy role-playing production has clinched two national records after staging a live performance lasting more than 56 hours across three days.
Echoes of Destiny: Bleeding Fate, produced by Nephilim Creations, claimed the titles of Malta’s longest continuous theatrical production and the country’s largest immersive live-action roleplay (LARP) event, with both accolades certified by The Malta Records.
The event attracted 64 participants to the site of the former Tarġa Battery between Mosta and St Paul’s Bay, which was transformed into the fictional frontier settlement of ‘Veilmoor’ for the production.
The production attracted an international cast from across Europe, including voice actor Mariya Anastasova, a lead vocalist in the award-winning video game Baldur's Gate 3.

In a statement announcing the records, organisers said they had approached the LARP event as a piece of “collaborative theatre, designing character arcs, moral dilemmas and layered storylines that unfold through participant interaction rather than predetermined outcomes”.
Each participant’s character featured a written backstory outlining motivations and connections to other characters.
The production featured handmade props and costumes, special effect makeup and detailed sets, with most of the environment hand-crafted, organisers said.
Nephilim Creations added that while its current series of events was inspired by dark fantasy reminiscent of works such as Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher series of books, adapted into a successful video game franchise and Netflix series, its long-term vision includes featuring original stories inspired by Maltese and Mediterranean folklore and history.
“Malta's varied architecture, rugged landscapes, year-round outdoor weather, and direct flight connections to most of Europe make it a natural home for this kind of work,” the group said, adding their “ambition is to bring world-class immersion to the heart of the Mediterranean”.

Noting that LARP events had “surged” in popularity across Europe, with notable examples including London’s ‘Punchdrunk’ events, organisers said the recent production was their most ambitious Maltese project yet, following a first outing last year.
Nephilim Creations co-founder and artistic director Myron Ellul said the group had been founded after seeing “so much potential” in Malta for LARP events.
"Malta has incredible talent, deep cultural roots, and a rich tradition of community storytelling, but nothing quite like this existed here. We wanted to build something where the audience doesn't just watch a story but lives inside one."
Co-founder Jason Micallef, who leads production design and world-building, added: "No one knew if it could be done on this scale in Malta. Fifty-six hours later, we had the answer. Now we want people to be curious about what comes next. Aren't you?”
Nephilim Creations said it was working on developing new immersive productions for Malta, with plans to expand the number of participants and work with international collaborators.
