The band Tiara, whose lead vocalist is Ira Losco, has produced a track exclusively for the fifth edition of Teatru Unplugged, which is being held at the Manoel Theatre tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
The band is not performing live any more and is dedicating itself to studio work at the moment, so Teatru Unplugged could be considered a one-off.
For the occasion, which is featuring both established and up-and-coming musicians, Tiara has sampled string instruments, including tubular bells, to back them up while they play their other instruments live on stage.
"We have never done this before and don't think we could possibly do it again live," said band member Jamie Decesare. Other tracks have been restructured and given a facelift, and Tiara's repertoire includes cover versions, which it does not usually do.
Unplugged's fifth edition has built on its previous successes and added innovative touches such as dance, flamenco nuevo, and, for the first time at the Manoel Theatre, even DJs, with their turntables and scratching sounds.
Other artistes, who aim to turn the formal, baroque setting into a buzzing concert hall, include Gianni and Anthony Spiteri, Ivan Filletti and his band, Lynn Chircop on the piano and guitarist Fraser.
