I wonder why Robert Wood (January 29) blames the whole island of Malta for his mistake in signing up for a timeshare. We visit Malta two or three times a year and when a timeshare tout approaches us, we ensure that we take the goodies offered, be it a bottle of wine or a free meal in return for giving up two hours of our holiday time. We drink their wine and eat their meal but we do not sign up or part with our money. Why? Because we do not want to buy timeshare.
Mr Wood is honest enough to admit that he was stupid in signing up - but please Mr Wood, do not stop going to Malta because of your mistake. You have gracefully accepted the upgrade offered you for the rest of the holidays, in return for parting with your money. There is no such thing as a free meal, let alone a free upgrade.
Perhaps it escaped Mr Wood's attention that practically all timeshare touts operating in Malta are English people, and not Maltese.
