The final games from the first round of the National Championships were played last weekend. The league comprises three divisions of 12 players each and each category is balanced with the title race still wide open.

In the top section, Mark Gauci leads Samuel Bartolo and Joe Borg Bonaci by one point. During last weekend's programme, Bartolo won his four matches to stay within striking distance of Gauci.

In the first division, Josef Camilleri currently occupies top spot, one point ahead of Ilai Zammit Marmara. The direct confrontation between the two main challengers ended in a 2-1 victory for Camilleri.

Darren Bezzina and Matthew Pace are joint-leaders of the second division with 24 points, one better off than third-placed Adam Gatt.

Premier League: Mark Gauci 22 points; Samuel Bartolo, Joseph Borg Bonaci 21; Stefan Pace 20; Charles Aquilina, Derek Conti 19.

Division One: Josef Camilleri 31; Ilai Zammit Marmara 30; Jean Carl Tabone 26; Angelo Borg 22; Mark Zammit 21.

Division Two: Darren Bezzina, Matthew Pace 24; Adam Gatt 23; Darren Carabott 19; Alan Abela Wadge 18.
