To EU or not to EU: is that the question?

Work in Progress seminars were founded in 1996 by anthropologist Dr Paul Clough and Dr David E. Zammit, a law lecturer and anthropologist. They have since grown in scope and now benefit from the valuable input of four other convenors, namely Dr Vicki Ann Cremona (theatre specialist), Dr Mark Falzon (sociology department), Professor Peter Mayo (education) and Dr Carmelo Vassallo (Hispanic specialist).

Also called 'Untangling Knots in the Social Studies', the seminars have always had three aims - to give researchers a friendly platform, to encourage a regular free-flowing exchange of ideas among all academics and students, and to act as an interface between community and university. This year, because of the historic decisions facing the Maltese people, the convenors have organised the series around the theme Malta, Europe and the Mediterranean.

The first of a series of seminars to be held this academic year will be on Wednesday with a debate between Nationalist MP Dr Michael Frendo and Labour MP Evarist Bartolo on "To EU or not to EU? Is that the question?" Dr Frendo and Mr Bartolo will explore EU membership versus the partnership option.

This seminar will be held in Lecture Theatre 2, Francis Ebejer Hall, University of Malta (entrance from Car Park 2) between 6 and 7.30 p.m. followed by drinks.
