The following are the top stories in Malta's newspapers on Friday.
Times of Malta leads with news that a man accused of causing a Sliema crash that cost a delivery worker his leg had secured a Maltese driving licence despite lacking a valid residence permit.
The newspaper also reports how a man who was beaten and sexually assaulted told police he was offered money after Jordan Azzopardi, known as "El Chapo ta’ Malta”, Mohamed Ali Ahmed Elmushraty, known as Lilu King, and two other men were charged in court over the alleged attack.
The Malta Independent leads with both leaders of the two main political parties saying they are in favour of a referendum on euthanasia during a televised debate on Thursday night.
It also reports that Malta is expected to register the strongest economic growth in the European Union until 2027, according to the European Commission’s Spring economic forecast.
In-Nazzjon leads with Opposition Leader Alex Borg pledging five years of tax-free income up to €50,000, to increase stipends by 25 per cent and invest in private pensions for those under the age of 35.
The paper also reports that the Labour Party is urgently meeting with the Marsaxlokk Local Council after the council condemned PL proposals for the locality.
L-orizzont gives prominence to the findings of the European Commission economic forecast, the signing of a new collective agreement by the GWU and Prime Minister Robert Abela emphasising his party's adoption of "progressive policy that invests in people".
