The following are the top stories in Malta's newspapers on Wednesday.

Times of Malta reports that Jason Micallef threatened to resign as Labour Party ‘special delegate’ after the prime minister admitted the government “could have done better” over the decision to lay gravel on the Ta’ Qali picnic area. The newspaper also reports that a 45-year-old man has gone on trial for allegedly shooting his wife's lover dead in his own home.

The Malta Independent reports how the wife of a man battling cancer has accused an air ambulance company of 'blackmail,' a story also found on the other newspapers. It also reports that environment NGO Din L-Art Ħelwa has made a direct offer to Midi to acquire Fort Tigné and 'save it for the nation'.

l-orizzont leads with the prime minister's announcement that the government will consider recommendations to make abuse of deepfakes a crime. 

In-Nazzjon gives prominence to remarks by Opposition leader Alex Borg at the exchange of new year greetings with the constituted bodies and media. He called for unity to push the country forward. It also reports that Steward Healthcare has been ordered to pay €850,000 to a cleaning company.
