Today’s front pages – July 16, 2026

Yorgen Fenech trial continues to dominate headlines

These are the leading stories in local newspapers this Thursday. 

Times of Malta leads its paper with claims made in court by George and Alfred Degiorgio, who are both convicted hitmen of Daphne Caruana Galizi. In court, the two brothers implicated Keith Schembri and Chris Cardona in the murder plot. 

Also on the front page is a report on how DJ Ryan Spiteri and Jessica Camilleri died of carbon monoxide poisoning. 

The Malta Independent leads with the same two stories, dedicating a portion of its cover to a photo of Spiteri and Camilleri. 

The General Workers Union owned L-Orrizont reported how Alfred DeGiorgio did not answer questions after he made statements implicating Schembri and Cardona. 

The paper also points out that an investigation into Spiteri and Camilleri's death indicates the incident was an accident, while also reporting that a worker in Qormi died after a tile fell on him. 

The PN run In-Nazzjon's front page is a report on Alex Borg's confirmation as leader with a "record" of 98 per cent.
