The top stories in Malta's newspapers

The following are the top stories in Malta's newspapers on Sunday.

The Sunday Times of Malta reports that Anġlu Farrugia was shocked and saddened when he was told by the prime minister that he would not be reappointed Speaker. The newspaper also reports that chicken noodles are the focus of an investigation by the authorities into last week's major food poisoning case. The newspaper is also the only one to report the tragic rockfall in Comino that killed a tourist.

The Malta Independent on Sunday quotes former Labour minister Michael Farrugia claiming that part of the reason for the narrowing of Labour's electoral majority was the fact that people did not vote.  It also quotes PN whip Ivan Castillo calling for a fixed parliamentary calendar. 

Under the headline of 'Hotel Mania', MaltaToday says 5,235 new hotel rooms were approved in the past two years. 

Illum raises concerns about the high presence of E. coli in Maltese waters.

It-Torċa continues its follow-ups on a court expert in the Vitals hospitals case who may not have been a suitably qualified forensic accountant.

KullĦadd reports that a proposed gas pipeline between mainland Europe and Malta is gaining support for EU funding. The newspaper also interviews the prime minister's official photographer.

Il-Mument says the people will have to make good for gas purchases at market prices for the power station. The newspaper also speaks of divisions within the Labour ranks as an official who was close to the prime minister left his Castille job, and was attacked by a prominent Labour blogger.
