Four-year-old boy dies five days after falling into swimming pool

The incident happened in Marsaxlokk

A four-year-old boy who fell into a pool five days ago has died, police confirmed on Sunday.

The child had been admitted to Mater Dei Hospital in critical condition after being pulled unconscious from the pool  at a private residence in Marsaxlokk on Tuesday. 

The incident happened at around 11.45am on Triq il-Port Ruman. He was rescued by people on the property and taken to hospital, where he was intensive care. 

A magisterial inquiry is underway.  

Last year saw two child drowning incidents.

Six-year-old Zaylen Borg drowned in a swimming pool at a private residence in Naxxar after he wandered away from his relatives. Later, in an interview with Times of Malta his mother opened up about the family tragedy and how her son was non-verbal and had autism.

A month later, in July, Noah Mizzi, a 16-month-old boy, died days after he fell into a pool at a residence in Gozo.
