We took the bus to work and found a very basic problem

A newsroom-wide commute highlights the challenges of relying on public transport

It's 8am in the morning and we're on our way to work - but this time, the Times of Malta newsroom is taking the bus.

Over the years, we've covered public transport extensively, including recent research showing that bus journeys in Malta take three times as long as travelling by car.

So we decided to put it to the test. For one Monday, we asked our journalists to commute by bus from their homes across Malta to our newsroom in Mrieħel.

Would they make it in time for the all-important morning meeting? And, after a long day, how easy would it be to get home?

Our small experiment revealed that the problem isn't just unreliable public transport. It's also the lack of infrastructure to support it.
