No fewer than five national presidents from top European photographic nations recently convened in Malta for the first time.

The Malta Institute of Professional Photographers (MIPP) hosted the Federation of European Photography (FEP), who conducted their annual general assembly at the Victoria Hotel in Sliema.

The FEP is the top European body recognised by governments all over Europe as the federation aiming to unite all Europe's photographers under one organisation with the intention of fostering collaboration and common aims between different nations.

MIPP president Kevin Casha, in his opening speech, said: "This is indeed a great honour and also further demonstrates the standing which the Mipp today holds in international photographic circles.

"In today's world of globalisation and shrinking borders, it is so important for a small organisation like ours to branch out and embrace the vast experience and knowledge of much bigger countries than ours. In fact, during the short time that the MIPP has been operating, it has come a long way in enhancing the standards and knowledge of local professional photographers."

The MIPP has been one of the first organisations to become affiliated with the FEP and, through its good relations, managed to bring to Malta the top officials of photographic associations from the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, France, the Czech Republic and Belgium.

During their stay in Malta, the FEP delegates contributed towards a photographic seminar and exhibition organised by the MIPP to mark the event.

Qualification panels for MIPP distinctions were also held during the seminar with FEP qualified photographers judging the panels.

A photographic exhibition brought over by the FEP was also inaugurated at Gallerija Couvre Porte, Vittoriosa, with the help of the local council.
