Top Malta Development Association officials resign

Tumult in Malta's leading development lobby as secretary general and two council members quit

Updated 4.15pm with MDA statement

Three top officials from the powerful developers' lobby have resigned, Times of Malta is informed.

Paul Attard, the Malta Development Association’s secretary general and council members Anton Camilleri, known as Tal-Franċiż and Pio Vassallo all stepped down.

The MDA confirmed the resignations in a brief statement that thanked the three for "their service, their commitment, and the contribution they have made during their time on the council."

One source linked the three resignations to a dispute with MDA president Michael Stivala, who however in the MDA statement said he "expressed the association’s appreciation for their work and dedication, and thanked them for the role they played in supporting the association and its objectives.

Attard is the founder of Plan Group, a property development company that has expanded into elderly care homes.

Camilleri, the man behind AC Group is the developer behind plans for a 39-storey hotel at the Villa Rosa site in St George’s Bay.

Vassallo is the CEO of Vassallo Group, a business group with interests spanning development, catering, elderly care and education.

In its statement, the MDA said it intended to "continue to move forward with full focus and responsibility, committed to representing the sector in a serious, balanced, and constructive manner in the national interest."
