The 'Premio Top Sprint - Omaggio alla Sicilianità' reached a milestone last December - 18 years - at the Metroplitan Theatre in Catania.
The show, a gala evening which featured fashion, music and cabaret, with the help of the event's patron Luisa Corna, was elegantly hosted by Flaminia Belfiore and Sergio Regalbuto.
Air Malta has participated in this event for the past 14 years. This years' awards were presented to legendary singer Irene Grandi for her latest successful album, much-loved comedian Massimo Boldi, journalist Claudio Brachino, Ivan Lo Bello, president of Sicilia Confindustria (the chamber of industry), and to Giovanni Pennisi, director of the Port Authority of Townsville in Australia, as an ambassador of Sicilian spirit overseas.
This year, Air Malta invited popular singer Ludwig to perform. The airline's continuous commitment to promote Malta and Maltese talent overseas has seen various other singers participating in previous editions. Last year's guest was J. Anvil.
Over the years, this event has recognised the work of various personalities and associations. In 1995, Air Malta was presented with the Top Sprint award in recognition of its "fundamental role to cement the economic links between the two islands". Italy being one of the most important markets for Air Malta, Top Sprint and the airline are consolidating their business relations to promote our island overseas. Several personalities have been presented with Top Sprint awards in the past: Ezio Greggio, Jerry Calà, Pippo Baudo, Emilio Fede, Michele Cucuzza, Ficarra and Picone, Carlo Verdone, Vincenzo Modica, Totò Antibo, Giucas Casella, Manilo Dovi, Gianni Bella, Anna Valle, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Leo Gullotta, I Pooh, Nino Frassica, Franco Zeffirelli, Damiano Damiani, Carmen Consoli, Gerardina Trovato, Ornella Muti, Lamberto Sposini and Manuela Arcuri.
