Tottenham qualified for the knockout stage of the Uefa Cup after coming from behind to draw against Anderlecht last night.

After an insipid first half, the game sprang to life after the break, Bart Goor shooting Anderlecht into the lead after a defensive mistake from Spurs.

But the visitors levelled when Jermaine Jenas was brought down in the box and Dimitar Berbatov scored from the spot.

Jermain Defoe twice nearly won it for Spurs towards the end, but he was denied by Red Star goalkeeper Daniel Zitka.

The result means Spurs have European football to look forward to in 2008 and they can now concentrate on improving their poor Premier League record.

In Belgrade, Bolton moved to the brink of qualification from Group F after Gavin McCann scored the only goal at Red Star Belgrade.

McCann struck from 12 yards on the stroke of half-time to leave Gary Megson's team top of the group. But three other teams could still finish ahead of Bolton dependent on scores in their final round of games.

Megson's team, after three draws in their previous fixtures, have gone through the group stage unbeaten and finally have a victory to their name, to take their tally to six points.

But Bolton have played all four of their group fixtures, while the other four teams in the group have one round of games left to play.

Bayern Munich and Aris Salonika could also move to six points if they draw next week, while Braga will also reach that total if they defeat Red Star, who have now lost the three games they have played.

That scenario would then see qualification come down to, at the first instance, goal difference and then goals scored to decide the three teams who will progress to the next stage.

A Manuel Friedrich header sent ten-man Bayer Leverkusen through to the last 32 at the expense of Sparta Prague.

With both sides knowing that a draw might not be enough to take them to the next stage of the competition, Michael Skibbe's side seemed to have lost the initiative after Carsten Ramelow was dismissed for violent conduct on 60 minutes. However, Freidrich rose to head home from a Tranquillo Barnetta corner 19 minutes from time to send Sparta out of the competition.

Leverkusen's success ensured that both Spartak Moscow and FC Zurich also qualify from Group E, despite the Swiss side's 1-0 defeat in the Russian capital.

Leverkusen travel to face Zurich in their final game on December 19.

Bordeaux maintained their perfect record in Group H with a 2-1 win over Helsingborg.

Greek side Panionios revived their qualification hopes with a 1-0 away win at bottom team Austria Vienna.
