The Malta Animal Rights Group welcomed the prison sentence given to a man found guilty of torturing of a cat but questioned whether 15 days was sufficient.

Six months and a substantial fine would have been more appropriate, the group said.

The group added it would like to see fines being imposed and the funds being given to animal welfare NGOs so that they can continue their educational campaigns against animal cruelty.
