Alcoholic beverages sold between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. can only be consumed on the premises where they are bought, in terms of a legal notice which has just been issued.

The notice says that during these times, such products can only be sold by premises licensed as clubs, at wedding halls and by catering establishments where the primary purpose is the sale of food and alcoholic beverages.

The legal notice prohibits the sale or serving of alcoholic beverages by street and market hawkers at all times. It also prohibits the storing of alcoholic beverages at commercial premises having a licence which does not permit the sale of alcohol.

Alcohol and tobacco products cannot be sold to people under 17. This has been the situation since 2008.
