Tourism grew by 11.3% in March

The UK, Poland and Italy were the biggest source markets

Tourist arrivals in March grew by 11.3% to 321,652 when compared to March 2025, the NSO said on Monday.

295,489 tourists visited Malta for holiday purposes, and 17,195 for business. The largest share was aged between 25 and 44 (36%), followed by the 45-64 age bracket (33.8%).

British, Polish and Italian residents made up 49.2 per cent of total inbound tourists.

Total nights spent went up by 5.9 per cent when compared to March 2025, reaching 1.7 million nights. The largest share of guest nights (90.3 per cent) was spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 5.3 nights.

Total tourist expenditure stood at €234.1 million, an increase of 6.9 per cent over the corresponding month in 2025. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €137.3.

The number of tourists visiting Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, totalled 153,116, or 47.6 per cent of total tourists.

January-March 2026

Inbound tourists for the first three months of 2026 amounted to 806,563, an increase of 16.3 per cent over the same period in 2025. Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 11.9 per cent, reaching 4.5 million nights.

Total tourist expenditure was estimated at €584.7 million, 15.0 per cent higher than that recorded for the same period in 2025. Total expenditure per capita decreased to €725 from €733 in 2025.

The number of tourists visiting Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, totalled 350,196, or 43.4 per cent of total tourists.
