Tourist arrivals and nights spent in hotels during August advanced by 9.6 and 7.3 per cent respectively when compared to the corresponding month last year, the NSO said today
The number of visitors climbed to 163,014 while total nights spent here by tourists reached 1.1 million.
Almost all hotel categories recorded increases with the exception of 4-star hotels which declined by 2.2 per cent. However, this hotel category accounted for 42.4
per cent of total nights registered by collective accommodation establishments.
The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments stood at 6.7 nights, practically unchanged when compared to the corresponding month last year.
Furthermore, the net use of bed-places edged up from 82.5 per cent in August 2012, to 83.6 during the month under review.
The Ministry for Tourism said the figure confirmed a record performance in August. It said such a record was instilling fresh courage in the industry and businesses, and this was a good augury that the country could continue on its economic growth.
