Malta needs to diversify its touristic product, focusing more on traditional aspects of typically Maltese culture, the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Mario de Marco said.
Speaking during a visit to the Limestone Heritage attraction in Siġġiewi, Dr de Marco said the attraction was a "clear example" of the Maltese traditions that could be used to enhance the country's touristic product.
He said Limestone Heritage was designed specifically to address discerning visitors expecting professionalism and value for money.
Dr de Marco said that the family-run business managed to secure funding from the European Union regional development fund for private touristic enterprises.
The funding, he explained, went towards enhancing the tourist attraction that included the installation of a theatre system and fixed display cases, a digital film-show, a Limestone Heritage website and the design and production of advertising material.
