The second from a series of tournaments organised by the Malta Table Football Sports Association this season was played recently and involved 27 players who were split in nine groups. The one-day competition adopted direct eliminatory stages after the opening qualifiers.
Joseph Mifsud made it all the way to the final but lost to strong contender Joe Borg Bonaci in a penalty shoot-out. Mifsud is coming from a very positive experience with Perugia. Last month, he helped the Italian team to success in the International Open in Wales.
Borg Bonaci is currently leading the national rankings. Charles Aquilina and Ilai Marmara are his nearest rivals.
Samuel Bartolo and Andrè Grima won the U-19 and U-15 competitions while Patrick Pace claimed the honours in the veterans' class.
Meanwhile, Massimo Cremona recently figured prominently for his team Temploux in the Grand Prix of Belgium. Temploux won the tournament. The Maltese player was eliminated in the quarter-finals in the singles event.
Cremona will team up with Mario Spiteri, Joe M. Debono and Stefan Pace later on this month for an international tournament in Berlin, Germany.
