In July, total exports declined by Lm4.3 million to Lm77.3 million, so that the total exports for the first seven months of the year showed a decline of 4.8 per cent to Lm532.1 million compared to the same period last year, the National Statistics Office said.

While domestic exports in July declined by Lm1.6 million to Lm68.8 million, re-exports dropped by Lm2.7 million to Lm8.5 million.

With regards to the cumulative total, NSO said last year's total exports were revised upwards due to the inclusion of Lm41.4 million accruing from the sale of aircraft. Domestic exports increased by Lm11.7 million or 2.6 per cent to Lm460.6 million from Lm448.9 million last year. Re-exports went down by Lm38.7 million to Lm71.5 million from Lm110.2 million primarily because of the inclusion of the re-export value of aircraft last year.

Imports in July reached Lm117 million, bringing the total for the first seven months this year to Lm757 million, up by Lm40.7 million or 5.7 per cent over the same period last year.

At Lm224.9 million, the visible trade gap widened by Lm67.7 million from Lm157.2 million last year.
