Mqabba is en fête today and tomorrow celebrating the parish feast of the Assumption. The fireworks display tonight in this village, renowned for its pyrotechnics, will twin technology with tradition in what promises to be another development in our typical village eve-of-festa spectacles.
Mqabba has been at the forefront of fireworks displays for decades and has been an example of tradition taking on the new in a synthesis that enhances, rather than detracts from, our festa rituals.
In the last few years, the August 14 display at Mqabba has developed into a pyro-musical show worthy of any international show, with spectacular fireworks synchronised to well-known pieces of classical music.
Tonight, Mqabba will be the first village to use the FireOne computerised system that synchronises the music even better with the fireworks and virtually eliminates randomness, slow periods and error in firing the hundreds of elements in the display. Importantly, it also improves safety.
FireOne has been imported from the United States, is being used around the world and has been described in international fireworks circles as 'the Photoshop of fireworks displays'. It was first used in Malta on April 30 this year, again by the St Mary Fireworks Factory of Mqabba, during the first night of the Fireworks Festival held in Grand Harbour.
The fireworks display tonight in Mqabba starts at 9.45 p.m.
