Charles Buhagiar, the Labour Party's spokesman for public works, roads, public transport and construction, yesterday said the new road from Salina to Iklin was causing great inconvenience to residents of Gharghur.
This project, he said, was undertaken to solve traffic congestion but it seemed the contrary was happening.
Before the completion of the new road, the way to Gharghur was via Naxxar then taking a downturn by the antenna tower. Due to the new road, the old way of getting to Gharghur has now been blocked, the new junction making it virtually impossible for drivers to get into the main road, especially when turning to Naxxar or Tal-Balal.
Adding insult to injury, Mr Buhagiar said, was the fact that no road signs have been put up to indicate the new way, or that there have been changes made to the roads in this area.
