Xewkija council, in collaboration with the Police Commissioner, recently organised a Traffic Safety and Child Abuse campaign for pupils attending Rosa Magro Primary School in Xewkija, and students at the Building and Agriculture School in Gozo.

The event, hosted by Xewkija Mayor Dr Monica Vella, was co-ordinated by PS Charlie Zammit, with the co-operation of the school's headmistress, Antonia Sammut.

PS Josephine Gauci gave talks on child abuse, while the traffic rules were physically demonstrated at the school's playground. The Dog Section gave a demonstration on how dogs are trained to aid police during their fight against drug trafficking and explosive substances.

A drawing competition was also held for the children, who were required to draw a picture symbolising a particular lesson they learned during the campaign. Booklets on traffic safety were then distributed, together with the police mascot.

Dr Vella thanked the members of the police force for making the occasion a day to remember for the students, presenting various police members with a memento.
