Malta International Airport today welcomed the first weekly flight from Nantes, France operated by Transavia, a French low-cost company created by Air France and KLM Group.
Providing scheduled service and charter flights to over 100 destinations, Transavia was chosen Best Low-Cost and Best Charter Airline by the Dutch travel sector for the fifth time in a row in 2013.
Passengers were welcomed by dancers in traditional Maltese costumes and were given a flower, courtesy of the Malta Tourism Authority. A cake was also prepared for the occasion highlighting aspects of Malta and Nantes as well as the Transavia brand.
MIA CEO Markus Klaushofer said the launch of Transavia’s new route to Nantes would ensure that the French market maintains a healthy market mix provided by a variety of airline partners.
MTA CEO Josef Formosa Gauci welcomed the expansion of Transavia network in France to Nantes, as a result of which Malta now had a regular connection to the north west of France.
Transavia already operates direct flights to Malta from Paris Orly and Amsterdam Schipol airports.
