The European Travel Agents' and Tour Operators' Association and the Guild of European Business Travel Agents welcomed the European Parliament's adoption of a new regulation regarding EU air fares.
The new regulation ensures the clear pricing of air tickets, including unavoidable taxes, fees, charges and surcharges.
The legislation also prohibits discrimination regarding access to fares based on the geographical location of tourists or travel agents. This provision will help travel agents to overcome restrictions in access to fares allowing customers to benefit from the best rates.
However, the organisations are still pushing for the abolishment of further discrimination in access to fares, particularly those based on the distribution channel. They also call on the European Commission to initiate specific legislation in order to establish a system to protect passengers in case of airline failure.
