Reference is made to the world news briefs Italy To Return Ethiopian Obelisk (November 17). Italy finally looks set to heal a feud with Ethiopia by returning one of its cherished relics, the Obelisk of Gaum (a 200-tonne granite column), taken by fascist invaders almost 70 years ago.

When is our government going to make an official request to the French government to return to us La Vallette's Sword and Dagger which are at the Louvre Museum in Paris?

Another very important item is a huge cannon, which lies in one of the passageways in the Tower of London. Could somebody explain to us how this cannon found its place there?

Now is the right time for such a request, seeing we form part of the same European Parliament and our representatives work side by side with their French and British counterparts. I therefore ask the government to do its utmost to have these treasures returned to our country so we can have them exhibited in our museums.
