Over the past two weeks, senior FOI officials have been conducting a number of meetings with trade unions, other employer bodies and government authorities to establish a way forward after the ruling of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on the treatment of public holidays falling on weekends. A tri-partite discussion on the matter was also held on July 28 within the Employment Relations Board.

The FOI assures its members that its position in the discussions will always be in the interest of the national and industrial competitiveness.

Due to these discussions and in view of the sensitivity of the matter, the Federation has recommended that all its members should await further updates from the FOI, and that no firm would take an individual stand on the issue while negotiations are still underway.
