Truth. Memory. Freedom. Eight years since Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination
Watch live: Annual silent gathering at Bidnija
Today, October 16, 2025, Malta marks the eighth anniversary of the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, who was killed by a car bomb outside her home for dedicating her life to exposing corruption and organised crime.
Members and supporters of #occupyjustice and Repubblika have come to Bidnija for the annual silent gathering on the spot where that brutal assassination took place, to commemorate the indefatigable investigative journalist. To honour her memory, defend her legacy, and renew our commitment to truth, justice, and democracy.
The activities will continue this evening as follows:
- 6pm. Mass in suffrage of Daphne Caruana Galizia, Church of St Francis of Assisi, Republic Street, Valletta.
- 7pm. March starting at City Gate, Valletta, towards Great Siege Square.
- 7:30pm. Vigil, Great Siege Square, Valletta. Speakers including distinguished international guests who will contribute to the commemoration – politician Pieter Omtzigt and journalist Giuseppe Giulietti.
#occupyjustice and Repubblika urge the public to please join us at these events.
Let us stand together so our voice will be heard.
