Malta lost its opening Pool A match from the Fed Cup Group III after they were beaten by top seeds Tunisia 2-1 at Marsa yesterday.

Lisa Camenzuli gave Malta the ideal start as despite struggling with an ankle injury she still managed to beat Ines Zoubai 6-1 6-1.

In the second singles rubber, Sarah Wetz found the going tough against Selima Sfari as the world no. 133 went on to win 6-0 6-0.

In the deciding doubles, Camenzuli teamed up with Roseanne Dimech and the Maltese pair played head to head with Sfari and Essaies Issem but lost 6-4 7-6.

National coach Dujan Janicijevic praised the Maltese players and said that their performance showed the good progress they made in the last few months and urged the Maltese public to give their support.

Today Malta face Botswana at noon. Yesterday Botswana beat Kenya 2-1. The top two from each pool qualify for Saturday's promotion play-offs.

Other results: Group III Pool B - Norway vs Namibia 3-0; Algeria vs Bosnia 2-1. Group II Pool A - Great Britain vs Turkey 3-0. Pool B - Luxembourg vs Finland 3-0; Latvia vs Georgia 2-1.
