Turkish TV star Can Yaman detained in Istanbul drug raids
Yaman among seven held by police following raids at Istanbul nightclubs
Turkish TV star and heartthrob Can Yaman has been detained following raids at multiple Istanbul nightclubs, as a probe by Turkish police into celebrity drug use broadens.
Yaman, 36, was among seven people detained overnight following the raids, with actress Selen Gorguzel also among those held. Turkish media outlets reported that the suspects will undergo blood tests on Saturday.
Istanbul police raided nine separate nightclubs across the city on Friday night, searching venues with sniffer dogs. Turkiye Today reported that the raids followed a tip-off about Yaman using drugs.
The Friday night raids are the latest in a string of police operations targeting celebrities and nightlife hotspots. In a similar operation on January 5, police arrested 19 people.
Yaman has starred in multiple hit Turkish TV shows and films, including Sandokan, Dolunay, Erkenci Kuş and Bay Yanlış. Some of those shows have been dubbed into Italian or aired with English subtitles, garnering the star a following in Malta.
