Societa Filarmonica Principessa Jolanda, a band from Mathi, Turin, Italy, recently performed at Ġieħ l-Imġarr 2010. This initiative aimed to strengthen cultural ties between Mġarr and Mathi, who signed their town twinning relationship in May 2009.

Societa Filarmonica Principessa Jolanda played alongside Mellieħa's Imperial band club in a band performance during the annual award giving ceremony at Mġarr primary school.

A delegation of 52 people from Mathi were taken on a tour around Valletta and Mdina, and then treated to a traditional Maltese dinner with members of Mġarr local council and Imperial band representatives.

The Mathi delegation attended Sunday Mass at Mġarr parish church. Afterwards, they participated in a social gathering with Mġarr residents in the newly-refurbished local council extension. The Italian visitors were then taken sightseeing at Ġnejna Bay.

Later, they were invited to the Imperial band club premises in Mellieħa. An intercultural discussion between Societa Filarmonica Principessa Jolanda members and Imperial band club members took place in the hall. The bands exchanged ideas and greetings, with the Mathiesi inviting Imperial band club to perform in Mathi in February next year.
