Two brothers were yesterday accused of defrauding four people of over €2,239.37 (Lm1, 000) each and misappropriating the money.

The brothers, aged 46 of St Paul's Bay and 52 of Sliema pleaded not guilty to defrauding the four in and before April.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli also heard the brothers plead not guilty to forging signatures and using false documents.

After taking into consideration the alleged amounts involved, Magistrate Demicoli granted one of the brothers bail against a personal guarantee of €3,000 (Lm1,287.55) and a deposit of €1,000 (Lm429.18) while the other was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000 (Lm858.36).

Police inspectors Ivan Cilia and Antonovich Muscat prosecuted.

Lawyers Paul Gauci Maistré and Richard Sladden appeared for the brothers.
