Four flights headed to Malta on Sunday evening were diverted because of wind shear over the Maltese islands.

Vueling's flight from Paris Orly, Ryanair's flight from Naples and AirMalta's flights from Berlin and Paris Orly were all diverted to Sicily.

Vueling's was diverted to the Palermo airport, while the rest to Catania.

In a brief statement on Sunday, AirMalta said that its two flights will return to Malta when it is safe to do so.

Air Malta apologised for the inconvenience caused and promised to continue to prioritise the safety of its passengers and crew.
