Two arrested in Gozo after €5,000 worth of suspected cocaine seized

Libyan nationals caught in Marsalforn drugs bust were seen allegedly handing over packages to others

Two Libyan men were arrested on Saturday morning in Gozo in connection with alleged drug trafficking.

The two men, aged 36 and 25, were arrested in a residence in Triq il-Wied, Marsalforn, limits of Żebbuġ, following a surveillance operation. Police officers had been monitoring the suspects and observed them allegedly handing over packages to other individuals.

A search of the property uncovered several packets filled with a white substance suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of over €5,000.

Around €4,000 in cash and other drug-related items were also seized from the scene.

The two men are being held in custody and are expected to be charged in court in the coming days.

Magistrate Simone Grech is leading an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
