Two men were yesterday arraigned separately on drug related charges.

They were charged with association for the purpose of drug trafficking, with possession of drugs in circumstances that indicated they were not for their personal use and with illegal drug possession.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera banned the publication of the name of the accused, a 30-year-old from Lija and 42-year-old from Paola.

Police Inspectors Norbert Ciappara, Nadia Lanzon and Maurice Curmi told the court investigations into the case of both men had commenced in Malta. The men were followed to Gozo where almost 2.5 kilos of cannabis were found in their possession.

The day after the arrest the police found 3.5 kilos of cannabis in a field at Corradino.

Dr Joseph Giglio and Dr Ivan Gatt were counsel to the first accused.

Dr Michael Sciriha and Dr Ian Farrugia were counsel to the Paola man.
