Two men were arraigned yesterday on drug trafficking charges.

Police Inspectors Nezren Grixti and Pierre Grech arraigned Victor Magri, 40, of Balzan and Owen Bonnici, 23, of Qormi before Magistrate Lawrence Quintano.

Magri was charged with having, last Tuesday and in the preceding three months, trafficked in cannabis from a place less than 100 metres away from a site frequented by young persons.

He was also charged with being a relapser.

The prosecution claimed that the accused had tried to contact one of the witnesses prior to his arraignment.

Bail was denied and Magri was remanded in custody.

Bonnici was charged with possession of cannabis resin in circumstances that indicated that the drug was not for his personal use.

He pleaded not guilty and bail was granted against a deposit of Lm1,500 and a personal guarantee of Lm5,000.

Dr Giannella Caruana Curran was counsel to Magri.

Dr Joseph Giglio was counsel to Bonnici.
