Two young American men are expected to be arraigned this morning and charged with importing about one kilogramme of cocaine on Tuesday evening.
The drugs, thought to have come from Costa Rica, were stuffed into capsules, which the police said, were swallowed by the two men.
One of the men, 22, was stopped by Customs and police officers at the airport after he disembarked from a flight from Amsterdam, the police said. Investigations then led to the arrest of a 20-year-old at a hotel in Sliema.
The capsules containing the cocaine were found in the men’s stomach after they underwent X-ray screening, the police said.
A magisterial inquiry is underway.
