An elderly brother and sister were slightly injured yesterday morning when thieves broke into the woman's house in Sliema.
According to the police, 74-year-old Geraldo Giudice was walking along St Francis Street in Sliema when he realised that his sister's front door was ajar. Since he knew that his sister, Dolores Farrugia, was at Mass at the time, he went to fetch her, and together the two entered the house.
According to the police there were three men inside Ms Farrugia's house, who assaulted the elderly couple as they entered. Mr Giudice was hit in the arm with a sharp instrument. The three men escaped from the scene.
The elderly siblings were rushed to hospital in an ambulance, and were found to be suffering from slight injuries. According to the police nothing was stolen from the house.
Duty magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna was informed of the case and appointed court experts to help him in the investigations, which are being conducted by police from the Sliema district.
