Two men charged with cocaine and heroin trafficking after Marsa raid
Police found cocaine, heroin, and around €700 in cash during the raid
Two men appeared in court and were charged with dealing in cocaine and heroin after a drug raid carried out by police in a Marsa home found around €700 in cash and drugs.
Magistrate Nadine Lia heard Anthony Borg, 40, from Marsa and Shaun Lee Grech, 32, from Paola - who said they are both unemployed - plead not guilty to trafficking in cocaine and the possession of cocaine and heroin with the intent to sell.
Earlier on, police issued a statement in which they said that, after days of surveillance on a residence in Marsa over alleged drug trafficking, police raided the property on Wednesday and arrested Borg, who lived there.
There, they also found a 46-year-old man from Senglea and Borg’s 56-year-old sister from Rabat.
At the residence, officers found cocaine and heroin, other items linked to drug trafficking, and about €700 in cash.
Police also stopped Grech, who was driving in the area, after he was seen leaving the Marsa residence and began speeding. A search of the car yielded about 25 sachets of suspected cocaine and used syringes, the police statement said.
Magistrate Lia denied their request for bail and remanded them in police custody. Attorney General lawyer Julian Scicluna and police inspector Alfredo Mangion prosecuted. Lawyers Jacob Magri and Thomas Sant appeared for the accused.
