The 2005/06 women's football championship will be contested by nine teams, the Malta FA announced.
During Monday's Council Meeting, the last one for 2004/05, association president Joe Mifsud told club delegates that two new clubs have joined the women's football family and will play in the league championship next season.
The two newcomers are Sliema and Qormi. They will join Hibernians, Birkirkara, Melita, Mosta, Raiders, Sta Venera and Rabat Ajax.
Rabat Ajax won the first MFA women's championship in 1996 and Sta Venera were the last team to join the association in 2004. Hibernians have won the league title for the past seven seasons.
Meanwhile, Division Three club Sta Lucija were given the go-ahead to enter into a publicity agreement with a TV station regarding their team.
It is reliably understood that Sta Lucija will join forces with the production crew of Net Stars who had a team taking part in the Futsal league last season.
In 2005/06, the Malta FA five-a-side competitions will be contested by 52 teams.
